Another quick note to tell you about plans for the Mad Hatters Tweetup at and in aid of the Servern Hospice.
The Prize fund is hotting up now with lots of donations from some lovely people, some selected prizes below.
- A photo shoot (donated by @ioan_said)
- A nights Bed & Breakfast at the 5 star Hopton House B&B (donated by @HoptonHouseBnB)
- A Hair Dressers Voucher (Restyle, cut n finish donated by @k2thesalon)
- 2 theatre tickets for Hi,De,Hi at the Theatre Servern
- Family pass for Blists Hill Victorian Town
- Meal for 2 from Bada Bing at Telford Shopping Centre
- Cinder Toffee Easter Egg from @TootSweetsShrew
BBC Radio Shropshire’s Jim Hawkins will also be coming along to help with the festivities and let’s not forget the Mad Hatter, he’ll be there of course…
Mar Dixon has some toys from her Rainbow group she’s bringing along for the kids to play with, but what would be great would be if we could source a kids entertainer. If anyone knows of a magician / clown / children’s entertainer / mad person that would volunteer their time that would be ace! Please let us know if you know of anyone.
We’ve got 5 folk bringing cakes, if anyone else feels brave and wants to do some treats if they could let @sazchik know as she needs to give the kitchen team a rough idea for what they need to do for the buffet. With this in mind they could also do with knowing a rough estimate of numbers attending
Please RSVP using the hastag #shroptweetup (e.g I’m going and so is husband and 2 kids #shroptweetup) to enable kitchen an estimated figure to cater for.

Just a quick post to tell you that plans for the tea party are going well and we’ve already been overwhelmed with the pledges of prizes for use on the day.
Amongst the ever growing list of prizes are;
- A photo shoot (donated by @ioan_said)
- A nights Bed & Breakfast at the 5 star Hopton House B&B (donated by @HoptonHouseBnB)
- A Hair Dressers Voucher
Another welcome donation is from the wonderful team at Stinky Ink (@stinky_ink) who have kindly offered to meet the cost of the buffet. Thanks
If you’d like to donate any goods or services to be given away on the day please get in touch with @thedinnerlady or @sazchik, remember the aim is to raise as much money as possible for those great people at the Severn Hospice, so the better the prize the more we can hope to raise.
If you’re planning on bringing baked goods or cakes to the Tweetup, please drop @sazchik a line via twitter of at sazchik@hotmail.com to let her know, this will help the team plan the buffet.
We’ll update you soon with more information about the event soon, in the meantime get working on your Mad Hatter’s Hats!
Cheers
@bigdaddymerk

If you go down to the woods today, you’ll be sure of a big surprise. That’s because the next Shropshire Tweet-Up is a Mad Hatters Tea Party themed afternoon of fun and thrills hosted at the Servern Hospice.
The wonderful and beautiful people of the hospice kitchen team have agreed to even feed us with a buffet and provide hot and cold drinks. All they ask is that you come along, have some fun and hopefully donate some of your hard earned cash towards the amazing work they do.
As there are so many brilliant foodies in Shropshire we’re also hoping some of you will bring cakes, sweets, anything you like to help our tea party go off with a bang.
Tweeters are more than welcome to bring their family with them, Shopshire tweeter @MarDixon will be bringing with her a bag of tricks to entertain the kids (and adults alike) and for those who don’t really get twitter @valdary will be running a twitter demonstration for the uninitiated.
The Mad Hatter himself will be on hand to over see proceedings and to judge the Mad Hatter Hat Competition, with a prizes for best and most original hats.
@TelfordVolServices is busy making these lovely knitted twitter badges which will be on sale during the afternoon.
Further details are still being worked out but there wil be a non-intrusive tour around the facilities of the hospice showing where your donations are being spent and we hope to have our very own tweedle dee sat on a bench outside for anyone to go and talk to.
For those who really cant have a tweetup without a drink (me) the Apley Arms pub is just down the road and tweeters can go on to here after the tea party finishes at 6pm.
We’d really like to know what you think, if you have any thoughts, suggestions, ideas or would just like to let us know you’re coming then please use the comments box below.
Please check back soon for further details or follow @shroptweetup or @Sazchik for updates.
This Tweetup was almost certainly the most successful, a huge thanks to @sazchik and others for organising and promoting. We’re already planning next months!
Thanks to @smorgo for great pictures as ever. If you have any pictures you’d like to appear on this site please email them to bigdaddymerk@gmail.com
A date has been set for the first(?) Shropshire Tweet-Up of 2010. It is to be held at the Cock Hotel in Wellington on Saturday 30th January from 6pm onwards.
The Cock Hotel is large establishment built originally as a coaching inn during the 18th Century, anyone travelling along the Roman Holyhead road would have likely stopped here for overnight rest or simply to slake their thirsts during their journey.
More recently the Cock Hotel has been voted the CAMRA real ale pub of the year for the area and offers a wide range of real ales and other drinks.
Getting to the Cock Hotel couldn’t be easier, it is walking distance from Wellington town centre or served by the 44 bus from Wellington or from Telford Shopping Centre/Central Railway Station.
See map below;

All are welcome, if you’ve not been to a meet up or you don’t know your followers/follows in person then this is the chance to come along and meet these people for real, while enjoying a well deserved drink.
Let us know if you’re attending so we’ve an idea of numbers, simply leave a comment below or use the hashtag #shroptweetup in a tweet to say you’ll be there.
Look foward to seeing you.
@bigdaddymerk
Thanks to all those who attended the Shrewsbury meet on the 22nd. Here are some picture courtesy of Steve Morgan (@smorgo) of Steve Morgan Photography. If you have any pictures you’d like to share please make them available to @bigdaddymerk and we’ll upload them to this site. Cheers
22nd August 2009, Shrewsbury
Thanks to everyone to came to the meet in Wellington last week, hopefully everyone had a nice time and got to meet some new people or catch up with new friends.

Confirmed date for next Shropshire meet: August 22nd, Chapel Bar, Severn Theatre, Shrewsbury, 4pm.

Just a quick remember to any Shropshire based twitterer who’d like to come and meet some other nice Shropshire Twitter folk.
We’re meeting at the Beacon pub in Wellington at 4pm on the 18th July (this Sat.).
The Pub is located in the centre of Wellington very near the train station, car parks are bus station.
Exact location details are in the previous post where you will find a link to the pubs website.
See you all there!
Ok here goes;
The final date for the July Shropshire Tweetup is 18th July, 4pm onwards at The Beacon, Wellington.
The Beacon is a large pub with more than enough space for us lot, sells draught beer, and does food for those who wish to eat – there is no football on the 18th so it should be relatively idiot free.
The Beacon couldn’t be any closer to a train station if it tried, right at the top of Station Road in Wellington here’s a map and some more info on the place.
Let us know if you’re going to come and if you’ve not been before and want to check it out please feel free to come along, non of us bite.
